Our Guides are the Redfish Lodge

Avid anglers and first-timers are equally welcome at Redfish Lodge. Our expert guides ensure that everyone, regardless of their fishing experience, will enjoy their time on the water. The many protected bays, islands and reefs offer plenty of shelter from wind.

  • If you have a guide you would prefer to fish with, make prior arrangements as early as possible.
  • The same is true of your preferred fishing method.
  • Call or email ahead to arrange a guide who specializes in your favorite type of fishing and can scout the waters in advance of your arrival.
Brian Holden, Redfish Lodge Guide

Brian Holden (web, phone 361-386-0410) has been with Redfish Lodge since 1993, first as a guide and now splitting his time between guiding and managing the lodge. He is a product of Wallingford, Connecticut and 1993 graduate of Castleton State College in Vermont with a degree in sports medicine. He spent years fishing both the fresh and salt waters of New England before moving to Texas to work at Redfish Lodge. Brian runs a 25' Majek Extreme with a 250 hp Yamaha motor.

Joel Pruitt is originally from Garland, Texas where he worked in his family automobile business for 25 years. He made regular trips to Rockport, stayed in the beach house his family built in 1926, and fished the area waters for the majority of his life. He moved to Rockport in 1986 to fulfill his life-long dream of becoming a fishing guide. He joined Redfish Lodge in 1998 after running a successful guide business for five years. He spends his winters as a quail guide and dog trainer for the Baluarte ranch in South Texas. Joel has earned the title of Black Drum King by successfully fishing the spring spawn every year and putting lodge guests on the biggest fish of their lives. Joel runs a 21-foot Shallowsport with a 150 Mercury.

Capt. Johan Coombs (web, phone 210-825-3727) was born in Finland in 1984. He moved to Texas shortly after his birth and grew up fishing the Texas coast and hill county streams. Upon graduating high school in San Antonio TX, Johan quickly moved to where his heart and mind was; Rockport TX. Fishing was his pastime but undoubtedly his passion. While studying marine ecology at Texas A@M Corpus Christi, Johan realized that he could combine his degree with his passion. Since 2007, Johan has been a fishing guide at Redfish Lodge and a free-lance fishing guide, backed with a BS degree of Marine Ecology/Field Biology ~ TAMUCC. To this day, Capt. Johan combines his knowledge of marine ecology with years of experience fishing the Texas coast to create the ultimate fishing experience.

Ryan Mclaughlin, Redfish Lodge Guide

Captain Ryan Mclaughlin joined Red Fish Lodge in the spring of 2010. Although Ryan spent most of his fishing career offshore his true passion is bay fishing. Even before moving to the coastal region in 2002 Capt. Ryan was visiting the coast on regular fishing trips with his family, boy scouts, and eventually on his own. When we opened our doors to him in 2010 he gladly stepped through to pursue his dream. He took on a brief hosting position before becoming a full time guide in September 2010. Capt. Ryan runs a 23-foot Haynie Bigfoot with a 200 Mercury motor.

Chris Hernandez, Redfish Lodge Guide

Chris Hernandez joined Redfish Lodge as a night host, and as many night hosts before him, aimed to become a full time guide for us at Redfish Lodge. Currently in his 4th year, Capt Chris has proven himself over and over again why he deserves to guide for Redfish Lodge. He runs a 22' Blazer Bay with a 200 hp Mercury.
